National campaign sees Orkney Try 1 Thing online
Get Online Week is coming to Orkney this month to give everyone the chance to make the most of the internet, no matter how confident they are online, and learn that getting the most out of the internet can be easy and fun.
Running from October 15 - October 21, Get Online Week 2018 will see hundreds of community events take place across the country. The campaign is saying: “See how it feels when you Try 1 Thing” - use the internet to do just one thing you’d normally do in a shop or bank, in a doctor’s or chemist, or even over the phone.
Robin Jamieson-Caley from The Learning Link says:
"More people than you probably think still don’t use the internet at all, and we’re here to help. But even if you send the odd email, use Facebook or read the news on your phone, you could still be missing out on so much.
Getting the most out of the internet doesn’t have to be scary. Doing just one new thing online is all you need to do to get started - come along to our event and we can help you do just that!
We’ll be holding our Get Online Week event on Thursday 18th October from 10am until 1pm at Kirkwall Community Centre, Broad Street, Kirkwall and there’ll be lots of friendly support for anyone who wants to start doing a bit more online - and it’s absolutely free.
People can call 879200 to find out more, or just pop in and see what’s happening. The more the merrier and everyone’s welcome!"
