Orkney College UHI Launch new SVQ 1 course in Hospitality
Orkney College UHI has launched a new SVQ 1 course in Hospitality.

This will be a full time course and students will be integrated with the NC Hospitality class and the Professional Cookery Award class.
The topics covered will be;

- Team Work
- Food Safety

- Preparing Vegetables
- Preparing Hot and Cold Sandwiches
- Preparing a range of foods eg eggs, simple salads and fruit etc
- Cooking Pasta

- Cooking Eggs
- Finish Simple Salad and Fruit Dishes
- Prepare and Clear areas for Food Service
- Customer Care
Many stakeholders attended the launch and two students who have already completed the SVQ 1 in Hospitality, Glen Chalmers and Emma Flett were on hand to show the customer care skills and bakery skills that they had learnt during the course. Hospitality Curriculum Leader Anne Hill explained what exactly students undertaking the course would do and the structure of the course. Also Kathryn Sclater, Curriculum Leader for Inclusive Practice explained to those present the more practical approach to assessment used in the course through the use of MyStudy Bar software.
